Dr Carol Cooper MA, MB, BChir (Cantab), MRCP Specialised areas: 1 General practice/family medicine 2 Child health/twins & multiples 3 Arthritis and rheumatism 4 General medicine Current positions: 1 Part-time GP, west London 2 Honorary teaching fellow, Imperial College Medical School Profile: After graduating from Cambridge University, I spent several years in different hospital specialities (among them orthopaedics, rheumatology, cardio-thoracic surgery, general medicine and surgery) and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians. I went into general practice when my first son was born. Following several years as a busy GP partner, I chose part-time work to develop my media career as well as fulfil family commitments. I am a lone parent to three sons who provide endless entertainment and inspiration. Since 2005 I have also taught final year medical students at Imperial College. Media work: For the last 9 years I have been The Sun newspaper’s doctor. I also write for the Lancet. Along the way I have contributed to many titles that include the Financial Times, Daily Mail, and several parenting and other consumer magazines. Extensive TV experience: regular doc slots and numerous phone-ins, discussions and studio interviews (eg GMTV, This Morning, Newsnight, Sky News, BBC News, Al Jazeera), for programmes that include live news/current affairs, panel discussions, documentaries and magazine shows. Presented several videos (eg Parenting with Multiples in Mind). Radio experience: phone-in slots and studio interviews for many different programmes. Also radio days for numerous PR campaigns. Several years’ experience of addressing varied types of audiences (eg Vitality Show, medical conferences, groups of expectant parents). Published books include The Baby & Child Q&A Book, Twins & Multiple Births, Baby Milestones, Your Clever Baby.. All are selling gratifyingly well here and worldwide. More titles are in the pipeline.
