Granada
TV are looking for a Childhood Obesity Expert; a Paediatric Dietician or
Nutritionist and a Child Psychologist for a documentary on ITV1. The
documentary is looking to highlight the issue of Childhood Obesity,
specifically in under 5’s. The roles are primarily support and research
based, although could lead to on-screen opportunities. We would love to
hear from anyone with experience in this field or an interest in the
subject.
If
you’d like to talk to us and find out more, please call Jenny on 020 7633

27 June 2007 This request comes from Belinda Otas at Colourful Radio. She is looking for someone to talk about the supposed link between coffee and liver cancer. It is claimed that drinking coffee appears to lower the risk of developing this cancer. The research was done in New York and published in the journal Gastroenterology. They are hoping to do a piece about it on Friday morning as a telephone interview with Amina Taylor. 25 June 2007 Endemol
UK are hoping to produce a television programme for the BBC in Batang Ai,
Borneo during July/August this year. We want to bring ten overweight
british teenagers to live the hunter /gatherer lifestyle with the Iban.
During a 24 day period the teenagers will live in a traditional camp and
will be taught the skills and techniques of hunting and gathering for their
food. We hope they will learn to appreciate that the land can provide
everything they need to survive and this will enable them to address their
disfunctional relationship with food whilst giving them the experience of a
lifetime.
All
doctors will need to provide at least 3 professional references, CV and
photograph. In
addition to our doctor, we would also want to contact a psychologist who
would be willing to meet our contributors on their initial stopover in
Kuching prior to filming. Our teenagers will be assessed by a psychologist
prior to leaving the UK but we would like to have someone local as an
additional duty of care.
Granada Television. This will be a series, possibly of daily programmes (although recorded back to back to save time) featuring two doctors as presenters. The set will resemble a surgery and real patients and visiting specialists discuss common and not so common problems, a snapshot of what GPs see and do. The pilot will be recorded in July or August, informal screen tests before that. This is a considerable commitment but a good opportunity. If it’s for you, I’ll need a biography and photograph (if I don’t have an up to date one – see below). 25 June 2007 BBC 3 This is more specific. The plan is for a documentary on recreational cannabis use and the production company is looking for a doctor to describe the effects and consequences of the drug. They need someone with strong views and a specialist interest. 30 May 2007 Do you undertake clinical trials? Not our usual line of enquiry, but in the past we have done some work on behalf of the Aspirin Foundation. They have been asked to help Bayer Consumer Care AG in Switzerland in identifying around 30 UK sites to take part in an Aspirin Primary Prevention Trial. Bayer advise that they are looking for GPs working in family practices, surgeries, health centres etc, all having experience with clinical phase III and /or IV studies. Since the study is a primary prevention study testing aspirin (in a placebo controlled double blind study) in a population at moderate risk of cardiovascular disease and the planned treatment period is approximately 5 years (including an enrolment period of approximately 18 months) the site/investigators should be able and willing to commit to the study for a least 7 years. Once identified contact details would be passed on to Bayer who would then make direct contact themselves to evaluate interest in the study, experience, availability of study population, site equipment capacity etc. Bayer will also set up a confidentiality agreement and supply more detailed information on the study. 29th May 2007 Granada Television’s Factual and Current Affairs Department in London are involved with developing ideas for new programmes. Therefore this is a proposal, there is no guarantee that it will ever get made, but if it did…. They are looking an examination of the advances in medical science that have been pioneered in this country over the last two decades. The aim of the programmes would be to show how certain conditions that were potentially fatal 20 years ago, can now been cured, or alleviated, through new surgical procedures that have been developed in recent years. The concept is for three or four hour long documentaries. The programmes will largely led by case studies and interviews with the doctors involved, and where possible the patients, involved. Clearly they would need a medical practitioner to be an on-screen presence for the programme, possibly conducting some of these interviews and helping to guide the viewer through the intricacies of how the treatment works, what it means for future cases etc.. the usual ‘how to explain the complicated’, exactly what we are good at. They are looking for a new face to fill this role, rather than established broadcasting doctors: that’s not to say that the person won’t have had any broadcast experience, but will be someone who is not a regular on the screen, or has only recently started broadcast work. In their proposals they need three or four names. You may hear no more, but if you’d like one of those put forward to be you send me the usual biog and I’ll pass it on.
25th May 2007 An agency working on behalf of the Department of Health's hepatitis Campaign is producing a music and information CD that aims to raise awareness to the South Asian Community. The CD is in the format of a radio show and involves an interview with a person affected by hepatitis C. The CD will be distributed at Asian melas, through Asian retailers and community organisations. They have started recording the CD with a person affected by hepatitis C and Sony TV's Yasmin Quereshi. However, it is strongly felt that including a male healthcare professional on the CD would be beneficial, particularly to engage a male audience and give clear, medical advice on hepatitis C. You would need to be fluent in both English and Urdu.
12 February 2007 BBC-3 are looking for a Child Psychologist and Child Obesity Expert/Child Nutritionist for a new parenting series. You'll need to have experience of assessing children & writing reports giving direction on how the families will need help. Both roles are mainly as support to the production team, but you'll also be involved in the filming with both the families and the presenter of the series. If your interested and want to find out more call 0161 244 3609 or email sally.evans@bbc.co.uk 25 October 2006 Tiger Aspect Productions is one of the UK’s leading independent television production companies, and is responsible for award-winning comedy (the Catherine Tate Show; the Vicar of Dibley), blockbuster dramas (Robin Hood for BBC1) and a respected and varied factual output (the Monastery, Seaside Parish, Diet Doctors and more). For full details of our productions and company, please visit www.tigeraspect.co.uk. The Factual team are currently working to put together a panel of practising GPs for a newly-commissioned medical series involving consultations with genuine volunteer patients on camera (‘fly-on-the-wall’ style), in a doctor’s surgery/studio designed specifically for the show. At present we are looking to start filming in the New Year, but before then we’d like to make contact with, and screen-test, as many interested doctors as possible in order to put together a pool of suitable GPs and diagnostic specialists. This is not a presenting role - we’re primarily looking for watchable people who are happy to be themselves and display their medical skills in a realistic setting and a relaxed manner – but it will involve a strong on-screen presence and require a confident manner with patients. We’re looking for a wide range of ages, faces and skills, and we’re happy to hear from people with no previous TV experience as well as those who have worked on media projects in the past. If it sounds at all up your street please don’t hesitate to email duncanthompson@tigeraspect.co.uk and we’ll tell you more about the project, and find out a bit more about you.
9th August 2006 A new prime time health series is looking for an experienced male GP who has no problem dealing with a wide range of “embarrassing illnesses”.
Our ideal doctor will be professional and confident, have personality and character and a background or interest in mens health problems.
If you feel passionately about removing the stigma on skin conditions, incontinence, sexually transmitted infections, sexual dysfunction (including impotence), periods (heavy and painful) or things like flatulence, worms, excess body hair and sweating
THEN WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
You’ll be working as part of a team in our very own TV health clinic, treating patients with a variety of conditions which many of us feel too embarrassed to seek help for.
If you’re interested in finding out more, please call Meryl or Inga on 020 7874 6615 or email healthclinic@mavericktv.co.uk
3rd May 2006 DOCTOR (WITH NUTRITION BACKGROUND/ INTEREST) WANTED FOR BBC DOCUMENTARY ON EATING HABITS
The BBC
are making a brand new documentary series about People's Eating
Habits and we are looking for an Onscreen Doctor
who will feature in each episode. The 6x 1hr series will follow several
contributors who have unusual diets or eating habits that control their
lives; such as extreme restricted diets due to food phobias, people
suffering from binge eating or the junk food addicts. Over a period of
approx 5 weeks, they will work closely with a Psychologist and Nutrionist (who
we already have on board) to explore their relationship with food and
attempt to find a realistic and healthy balance with their diets.
The
contributors will visit a hospital/ clinic where they will undergo medical
tests that highlight the impact their poor diets have on their gut, skin,
liver and heart etc. We are looking
for a Doctor (aged under 40) to
present the results to the individuals, using
visuals/ models and graphs, giving them the brutal facts of what is
happening to their bodies. As there may not
always be conclusive results from the initial tests, ideally this doctor
will have a background in Nutrition so they will be able to
discuss the potential future affects the diet will have on their
bodies if they don't change their ways.
Previous media experience is not necessary.

ARE YOU A DOCTOR WHO WOULD MAKE A GREAT TV PRESENTER? CALL NOW: 0161 244 3609 or email: sally.evans@bbc.co.uk The BBC are looking for lively, entertaining, charismatic doctors who have a witty sense of humour and are brilliant at engaging with the public. If that sounds like you, or you know someone who could be perfect, please contact us.
Are you a psychologist, life coach, or therapist? Would you rise to the challenge of helping 14 guys from Essex beat their demons – whilst they were also being trained as a football team?! We need someone who has a methodology that will work for TV: that means sessions and treatment that will be visual and could be done in a group (as well as one to one assessments and off camera chats of course). It would really help if you were based in or near Essex – as that’s where the weekend training will be. It’s 10 consecutive weeks, and you would be an integral part of our team of experts, so we’d need you for about 1 day per week. It doesn’t matter if you have little or no TV experience (in fact it’d be a plus), and you don’t have to be keen on football (in fact it might be funny if you weren’t) – but I’d like to hear from anyone who thinks they fit the bill. Send me a cv, photo if possible, and a few examples of how your methods would be good for TV. Tom Email: tom.jackson@itv.com Tom Jackson Series Producer Saved By The Ball
